About Ciro The Crooked Quilter

I call myself The Crooked Quilter because I genuinely can’t sew a straight line — and I’ve stopped pretending I want to. My seams wander, my corners don’t always match, and every so often a star point disappears entirely. Instead of fixing it, I look down and think, that works too. I don’t quilt for perfection. I quilt for the joy of making something with my hands, something useful, something that carries a little bit of life in it. I love the whole process — the fabric hunting, the color mixing, the moment a pile of scraps becomes something warm and functional. Crooked quilting is freedom. It’s permission. It’s the reminder that beauty doesn’t come from getting everything right — it comes from showing up, stitching anyway, and letting the imperfections become part of the story. This is my way of making things that work, things that last, and things that feel like me. Crooked, joyful, and absolutely good.

This quilt pattern was designed by Cozy Quilt Designs, with Daniela Stout as the creative mind behind it. The quilt is named Park Plaza, and crafting it was an absolute joy. The colors and the pattern resonated with me the moment I laid eyes on them, igniting a spark of inspiration that compelled me to bring it to life. What emerged from this creative process is a vibrant expression of my vision, reflecting the beauty and harmony that the original design conveyed. Each stitch is a testament to the joy I felt while creating this piece.

My Collection

Bear Claw & Jacob’s Ladder Quilt Top Pattern inspired by Missouri Star Quilt Co.

This quilt top combines four traditional Bear Claw blocks at the center, surrounded by a field of Jacob’s Ladder blocks that create movement and visual rhythm. The original MSQC pattern used a black background and coordinated precuts, but this version is built entirely from scraps — giving the quilt a lively, one‑of‑a‑kind character.

The background fabric is a deep, rich dark green from Dry Goods Country Store in Kutztown, PA, chosen as an alternative to the original black. The green adds warmth and depth, allowing the colorful scrap blocks to glow without overwhelming the design. A narrow yellow inner border adds a spark of light, while the blue outer border frames the entire composition with a calm, grounding edge.

This quilt top is currently awaiting quilting, which will add texture and dimension to the finished piece.

My first Lone Star Quilt

I had previously created other Lone Stars, but this particular one inspired me to incorporate a partial Dresden in each corner. I believe that adding the Dresden blocks in the corners beautifully anchors the star, enhancing its overall design. The process of bringing this vision to life was incredibly enjoyable, allowing me to explore my creativity and experiment with new elements. Each stitch was a delight, and I loved how the combination of the Lone Star and the Dresden added depth and character to the quilt.
